Sound Stations

Freight House Project, Kansas City, MO, 1999

a pair of etched weathered steel ear trumpets, each 3 x 1 x 4' H with a 360 degree rotation, landscaped area including limestone flagstone paving bearing watermarks from its formation and laid in the shape of waves that intrude into the adjacent parking area, boulders for standing or sitting, an earthen berm under viaduct, native prairie and imported grasses, and gingko trees (capable of surviving urban air pollution and concrete surfaces restricting their  water intake). Site approximately 30 x 200'.

The materials for the Sound Stations reflect the industrial buildings in the area surrounding the site. Most of the structures have limestone foundations, from stone quarried in and around Kansas City.
